Japan, N. Korea move toward normal ties

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei -- Japan and Korea Wednesday pledged to work on normalizing relations after a meeting of foreign ministers in the Brunei capital.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi and North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun met for an hour Wednesday to discuss fast track efforts in restoring normal relations between the countries.

Powell mission fails to jumpstart India, Pakistan talks

NEW DELHI -- U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's mission to South Asia failed to persuade feuding India and Pakistan to resume dialogue toward easing tensions.

Powell visited New Delhi on Saturday and Islamabad on Sunday stressing the need for ''regional stability.'' This is his third visit for to South Asia for the purpose of easing tensions since last October.
