ASEM meets to discuss Myanmar

BALI -- Officials from Asian and European countries met Tuesday to discuss the Myanmar situation ahead of the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) starting on Thursday.

Separate meetings were held by 10 Asian and 15 European senior officials prior to a general session Tuesday afternoon.

China, Russia oppose U.N. statement on N. Korea

NEW YORK -- China and Russia Wednesday voiced opposition to a U.S. proposal calling on the U.N. Security Council to denounce North Korea's nuclear arms program, U.N. sources said.

The informal meeting of permanent Security Council members broke up because of the China and Russia's objection.
