Indonesian legislature passes on Sharia law

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's top legislative body Saturday voted not to adopt Islamic Sharia law as an article for constitutional amendment.

The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) is voting to endorse 16 amendments to the 1945 constitution.

U.S. closes Karachi consulate

ISLAMABAD -- The United States Monday closed its embassy in Karachi, Pakistan for security reasons, officials said.

There have been several attacks on Western targets in Pakistan since the beginning of the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan. A bomb attack on the consulate nearly two months ago killed 12 people.
