Philippine peace talks break down

MANILA -- Peace talks between the government and communist rebels are likely to fail, according to an administration offical.

Recent statements by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's administration indicate the government is no longer interested in pursuing the stalled negotiations.

Indonesian legislature passes on Sharia law

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's top legislative body Saturday voted not to adopt Islamic Sharia law as an article for constitutional amendment.

The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) is voting to endorse 16 amendments to the 1945 constitution.
