Estrada may get house arrest

MANILA -- Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said she was willing to place ousted president Joseph Estrada on house arrest, a Cabinet member said Monday.

The president has been slipping in the polls and many see this as a move to curb sliding approval ratings.

Japan dispatches Aegis ship

TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi Wednesday ordered an Aegis-capable naval ship into the Indian Ocean to support U.S. military efforts in Afghanistan.
The move drew harsh criticism from opposition politicians and even from members of his own party and ruling coalition partner, the New Komeito Party.
