No permanent U.S. bases: Manila

MANILA -- THe Philippines said Saturday that it will not allow permanent U.S. military bases in the country as war games continue in the south.

Presidential spokesman Rigoberto Tiglao said that facilities under construction by U.S. forces are temporary for the purpose of the current exercises and are located within Philippine military bases.

Bush, Musharraf meet in Washington

WASHINGTON-- The leaders of Pakistan and the United States met Wednesday in the U.S. capital to discuss relations and the war against terrorism.

U.S. President George W. Bush praised Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for his help which he called ''critical'' in routing the Taliban and the al-Qaeda network in Afghanistan.
