Al-Qaeda plot in Singapore uncovered

An al-Qaeda leader's videotape discovered in Afghanistan revealed a plot to target American military personnel in Singapore, after officials released the video Friday.

The Internal Security Department showed the video of Khalim Jaffar togther with Arabic notes and an English translation.

Koizumi begins Asean tour

TOKYO -- Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will begin his week-long Southeast Asian trip Wednesday in hopes of shoring up Tokyo's influence in the region.

Despite his popularity at home, Koizumi may not have so many admirers among Asean nations. Unlike other Japanese prime ministers who insisted on visiting Asean as the first official visit of their terms, Koizumi ignored the region.
