Cold weather takes toll in South Asia

DHAKA -- A cold front from the Himalayas sent temperatures plummeting in Bangladesh, northern India and Nepal killing nearly 1000 people.

More the half of the deaths occurred in Bangladesh where some 590 people fell victim to the severe cold spell.

Japan turns down S. Korean nuke proposal

TOKYO -- Japan rejected South Korea's proposal to deal with North Korean nuclear situation, Japanese officials said Wednesday.

Tokyo followed Washington's lead in turning down Seoul's two-tiered plan that calls for dealing with Pyongyang's plutonium program before its uranium enrichment program.
