VP, Foreign Secretary may quit over U.S. troop presence

Philippine Vice President and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teofisto Guingona said he that he disagrees with the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the deployment of U.S. troops. He hinted that he may resign according to a report in the Philippine Dailiy Inquirer (PDI) on Monday.

The Philippines and the United States signed a signed a 10-year ''arrangement'' on military cooperation over the weekend, and the administration has agreed on U.S. troop deployment on Basilan Island in the south.

Pakistan wants peace: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's President General Pervez Mushrraf told the foreign press Saturday that Pakistan wanted peace but was prepared for any threat.

On Friday, Musharraf said that India had made massive troop deployments along the disputed border and that they were in position for attack.
