U.S. to retreat from Korean border in two phases

SEOUL -- The United States will redeploy its troops away from the Korean border in two phases, officials said Thursday.

The 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea will first relocate forces from small border bases into Camp Casey in Doungducheon and Camp Red Cloud in Uijongbu. Both bases are closer to the capital Seoul.

U.S. to redeploy troops in Asia

WASHINGTON -- The United States is planning to relocate troops in East Asia, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

The plan will mean relocating or closing bases in Japan and South Korea. The U.S. presence will be increased in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.
