Asean founding nations divided over war

SINGAPORE -- The five founding members were split over the coalition war in Iraq. Indonesia and Malaysia are opposed to the war while the Philippines and Singapore back the effort. Thailand maintains a more neutral position.

While Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has said that he does not agree with the war, his country has expelled Iraqi diplomats.

Japan prepares for Iraq war

TOKYO -- Japan's government said it was taking precautionary measures as Iraq's Saddam Hussein defied a U.S. deadline leave his country.

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi voiced full support for U.S President George Bush's war plans and announced the formation of a cabinet level war task force.
