SARS deaths rise to 506, 7,053 infections

GENEvA -- The Worldwide SARS death toll reached 506 out of a total 7,053 cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Thursday.

In China, where the disease is believed to have orginated in Guangdong province, five more deaths were reported on Thursday. The total death toll is 224. An additional 146 new cases were reported there raising the total to 4,698.

China promises N. Korea talks without Japan, S. Korea

WASHINGTON -- China may have assured North Korea that nuclear talks would not include Japan and South Korea, Kyoto News Agency reported.

A recent Congressional Research Service Report (CRS) stated that Beijing pressured Pyongyang to return to negotiations and in return agreed to North Korea's stance on Tokyo and Seoul.
