Pakistan sealing off border

ISLAMBAD -- Pakistan Saturday continued to take measures to seal its border with Afghanistan to prevent fleeing Taliban forces from entering the country, officials said.

Presidential spokesperson Maj-Gen Rashid Qureshi said that troops have been moved to the border to prevent entry except in "extreme humanitarian cases."

Rebels free hostages in Philippines

MANILA -- Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines freed seven hostages Thursday after holding them for six months.

One of the hostages, Maria Fe Rosadeno, said during a press conference that the three women and four men were released to allow Abu Sayyaf members to travel faster through jungle terrain.
