Moro leader vows to carry on fight

JOLO, Philippines -- Nur Misuari was stripped of his powers as governor of the southern Muslim region Tuesday, but he vowed to continue the fight for an independent homeland.

Misuari led a revolt Monday attacking government installations on Jolo island in the southern Philippines. Military officials say the action was meant to prevent elections schedule on Nov. 26 in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Pakistan sealing off border

ISLAMBAD -- Pakistan Saturday continued to take measures to seal its border with Afghanistan to prevent fleeing Taliban forces from entering the country, officials said.

Presidential spokesperson Maj-Gen Rashid Qureshi said that troops have been moved to the border to prevent entry except in "extreme humanitarian cases."
