Asian Games open in Pusan

PUSAN -- The 14th Asian Games officially opened Sunday in South Korea with participants from 44 countries, the largest ever.

Representatives from each country marched into Pusan Asiad Stadium and South Korean President Kim Dae Jung declared the games opened after the lighting of the ceremonial flame.

Workers clash with police in Jakarta

JAKARTA -- Police used water cannons against protesting workers Tuesday as unions rallied against two labor bills in the Indonesian legislature.

The police hosed down protesters who began shaking the new House gate, which ultimately collapsed.
