Earthquake kills two in Papua

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea -- A powerful earthquake Monday off the northern coast of Papua New Guinea (PNG) killed at least two people, the Australian Associated Press reported.

The PNG Geophysical Observatory said the the early morning quake measured between 7.5 and 7.9 on the Richter scale. The Australian Geological Survey Organization measured 7.6 at 4:44 a.m. local time.

Kim nominates new PM candidate

SEOUL -- South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung will appoint another candidate for prime minister soon, presidential officials said.

Parliament rejected Kim's first two nominees to replace him after his five-year term ends in February.
