Workers clash with police in Jakarta

JAKARTA -- Police used water cannons against protesting workers Tuesday as unions rallied against two labor bills in the Indonesian legislature.

The police hosed down protesters who began shaking the new House gate, which ultimately collapsed.

Japan calls for cleaner, secure energy

OSAKA -- Japan Saturday issued a call for ''clean and affordable'' energy and energy cooperation and security in Asia during an international forum in Osaka.

Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Takeo Hiranuma called for a balance between meeting energy demands and caring for the environment at the International Energy Forum.
