Hello KP,
I am Amrita, a keralite. I have traveled a lot around Kerala and to other parts of India. I work in a computer firm now and am busy with a 2 year old daughter. So I havent been able to travel that often. Kerala is India's greenest and cleanest state. The people are educated and over 90% speak english . You should have no communication problem. There are plenty of places to stay which are affordable and beautiful. With the usual precautions Kerala is as safe as any other place. October is the start of season time in Kerala but your budget is likely to go up a little as a lot of tourists will be coming so rates are higher. Your vacation can be wonderful if you do the right things. May I suggest that you begin your trip in Trivandrum, the capital city. You can land at the international airport here. Trivandrum has a lot of beautiful beaches in Kovalam and there are great places to stay near the beach at affordable rates. You can go on to quilon where you are spolit for choices at backwater resorts and even take a trip for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a houseboat. From there you can go on and visit Kochi city where there is the old jew town and beaches and shops and plenty of things to do. From there you can travel to the iduuki and thekkady area which is the place for hillstations and exotic wildlife safaris. Here also you will get affordable places which are exotic and comfortable. You can go trekking, take a boat cruise through the tiger wildlife sanctuary visit spice plantations etc in thekkady. In Munnar , you can visit the tea plantations or relax at lovely homesteads or treehouses and go adventure trekking if you are up to it. By this time you will have seen most of Kerala. But I insist that you must see these places, because this is the essence of kerala. I can arrange accomodation for you at all these places. All the places I recommend are safe, affordable and provide breakfast. But it is always wiser not to go for very cheap places, because then it may be unsafe. A decent resort in Kerala is very safe, has excellent service and is affordable and also provides peace and tranquillity. For a really enjoyable trip I recommend that you take ayurvedic massages starting from the beaches. The Indian ayurvedic massages will make you feel 10 years younger , heal most illnesses and fatigue and leave you with great hair and skin. Please contact me if you want to plan your trip or to find out the best places to stay. I can guide you through Kerala. Do feel free to contact me. I live in Trivandrum so I can be of help to you. My telephone number is 0091-471-541827. hoping to hear from you soon.
regards amrita
