The H1n1 influenza virus, better known as swine flu, is more threatening to the young adults than it is to infants and the aged.  This is exactly the opposite of what happens with the normal flu bug.

Because swine flu kills mostly by overstimulating the immune system, the virus is more deadly among relatively healthy people with strong immune systems.  Older people and the very young tend to have weaker or less developed immune systems, so they have a weaker, less serious reaction to the virus.

The immune reaction to swine flu usually causes the body to go into overdrive flooding the lungs with fluids in an attempt to control the virus. Victims often die due to lack of oxygen or related complications.
