work at
a large event
€ to build audiences for young, emerging artists
€ to strengthen the sense of community among our young artists
€ to raise awareness of the existence of and diversity within the APA
arts
community.

The KSW-Next group, KSW artists between the ages of 18 and 35, will be
organizing, jurying, and staffing the event.

The rough categories of curatorial focus are:
€ Visual arts - 2D, 3D, installation, multimedia, computer-generated,
etc.
€ Performing arts - theater, dance, movement, spoken word, puppetry,
etc.
€ Music/Sound - all music, electronic, turntable, sound, noise, etc.
€ Literary arts - includes self-published written and drawn work, all
writing
€ Film/video - film, video, slide shows, all projections
In addition, we are offering artists of all ages the opportunity to
present a
workshop or demonstration to share resources and skills. Therefore there
is a
sixth category.
€ Workshop

APAture will present performances, exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops
and
panel discussions in as many genres or disciplines as possible. The
specific
events are to be determined and planned by the curatorial committees. The
APAture organizers encourage artists to submit finished work as well as to
propose creating new work for APAture. APAture values community-building,
ethnic and artistic diversity, and collaboration across ethnic and
disciplinary lines.

------------

The mission of Kearny Street Workshop (KSW) is to promote, preserve
and
present art that enriches and empowers Asian Pacific American communities.
We
provide a base for artists who seek a connection to their roots, their
history, their sense of community. We encourage the creation of new and
innovative forms of expression inspired by the Asian Pacific American
experience. We stress the importance of art as a bridge to cultural
understanding.

Founded in 1972, KSW has become the primary resource center for
out-of-towners seeking knowledge about Asian American art, and for
artists,
students, and educators who look to KSW for guidance and historical
information. Our past programs include the Asian American Jazz Festival
(produced for 17 years with the Asian Art Museum), silkscreen posters,
visual
art exhibits, and large scale murals.
