*The panel's general topic will be 'new and enduring stereotypes of Asian
Americans,' especially timely in the current climate. We'd also like to
touch on the issue of cultural misunderstanding/commodification. The panel
will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 3:00 to 3:45 at the
Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art.
The panel will immediately follow the showing of two related documentaries
(listed below). Panelists are:
Moderator:
- Shari Macias, Reporter, WRC-TV Channel 4, Washington, D.C.
- Anmol Chaddha, filmmaker, 'Yellow Apparel: When the Coolie Becomes Cool,'
Berkeley CA
- Abraham Lim, filmmaker, 'Roads and Bridges,' Los Angeles
- Frank Wu, commentator and professor, Howard University Law School,
Washington, D.C.
