ComPASs Conference, 02/09/02
*****************************************************
When: 02/09/02, 9a-6p
Where: MLK Student Union, U.C. Berkeley Campus
Cal Community,
Our community has been working around the clock to organize for Pilipino
American Studies. On February 9th, Compass will be hosting the long awaited
conference 'On the Verge: Conversations on Pilipino American Studies.' This
is going to be an incredible event. We've invited Jessica Hagedorn, Leny
Stroebel, Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, students and community member to speak
at the conference.
Many campuses are working now to institutionalize Pilipino American Studies
and Tagalog instruction. Our conference will serve as a forum for
discussion to begin to organize a statewide campaign for Pilipino American
Studies and Tagalog instruction. Without question, the scope of this effort
is grand.
We need the Cal Pilipino Community to support this event in full force since
our campus is hosting it. Below is the press release for the conference.
It would be cool if you could come and attend yourself and pass on the
information to people that you know. This will be a great opportunity for
our community.

academia, students, and the community. This conference is designed to work

limited, so we encourage participants to pre-register by February 1, 2001.
