Although tests have shown the presence of melamine, a nitrogen-rich organic base produced from urea, in recent tainted pet food cases, it is not implicated in the deaths so far.
Previous testing of melamine did not show any short-term effects, but did contribute in the long-term to kidney stones, cancer and other ailments.
The quantity of melamine found in the recent tainted pet food was very low.
As a precaution though you might try using herbs used by divers to remove nitrogenous wastes from the body including red clover, kidney tonics and diuretics (and lots of water and fluid in food).
