Did anyone see a current affairs programme on TV1 last night, Monday 17th July 2006 on Overstayers? The first moment I saw it brought a gut feeling similar to that of watching a Nazi regime old war movie, also to the more recent scenes of Dawn Raiders, it is brutal how they round up those folks with dogs and paddy wagons. The authority has a job to do, but the mistake is they didn’t know who they were looking for. So it’s the same old racial profile of suspects before their identifications are sought. It is a violation.

On the other side of reality, these folks are badly exploited by some employers to work for as little as 0.80 cents an hour. That’s not only slave labour but the profit these employers make is criminal.

It’s a beautiful country and these folks have admitted that life in here may be easier than their own. But surely that doesn’t justify inhumane treatments to keep it beautiful which it takes us back to the subject of poverty and a sub-culture associated with crime. Can we say the same for those so-called business and professional people who exploit the lot of the poor in order to sustain their lifestyles at the consequence of deteriorating the conditions of poverty?
