The top priority in maintaining genetic diversity of global crops is combating genetically-modified foods. Greedy corporations are testing these foods on the public more concerned about making money than the public health or the natural diversity and environment.

GMO crops can contaminate crops of farmers committed against using these dangerous experimental foods, and in many cases Monsanto and other corporations have sued in such cases for patent royalties.

As small farmers can't afford high lawyer expenses they sometimes lose to these corporate monsters even in cases were clearly their crops have been cross-pollinated by accident.
