The Pearl Ubungen dancers and musicians along with the MAKIBAKA! crew are
urging all of you to share your stories of immigration and struggle. We are
creating a history based on all of your stories and we ask that you share
your experiences with us. Visit the MAKIBAKA! website at
www.redrocketmedia.com/ and click on the History link. What you write will
be shared with many others during the Wild Wild West Show at the Somarts
Gallery in San Francisco.

MAKIBAKA! means struggle in Tagalog. It has a political connotation to
activism, and is also the name of the first Filipina women's organization
formed in the late 1960s. The Makibaka! Project will explore cultural
memory of and resistance to the US invasion and subsequent occupation of
the Philippines. We will explore this memory and resistance through
historical research, oral history interviews, dance, videography, and a
multimedia CD-ROM presentation.

This media and performance collaboration is a creation of mediographer
Glenda Drew, choreographer/cultural activist Pearl Ubungen, and the
Makibaka! Crew - young artists Chris Antonio, Melanie Fontanilla, Paulino
Love, Rosemary Mamisay, April Panganiban, Jennifer Panganiban, and
Michelle Pasaoa organized by Filipinos for Affirmative Action. 'W.W.W.'
features performances by dancers Clairemonica Dixon, Yayoi Kambara,
Frances Sedayao, Wailana Simcock, Amara Tabor Smith, Lenny Trinh, and
Musical Director/Composer Randy Odell of the Pearl Ubungen Dancers and
Musicians. Also featured is guest performance artist Gigi
Otalvaro-Hormillosa.

All performances are at 8pm, August 24, 25, and 26, 2000 SoMarts
Cultural Center, 934 Brannan between 8th and 9th Streets in San
Francisco. Tickets are $10 to $12 with reduced price of $8 for seniors
and students. Saturday night's performance is a benefit for Filipinos for
Affirmative Action. A live webcast will air on the Makibaka website:
http: //www.redrocketmedia.com/makibaka
