To all Concerned:
A few days ago I forwarded to you a message about an incident of police brutality in Seattle. This story was originally circulated through the
Internet. I have now verified the report.
Rick Beltran, NaFFAA Regional Chair for the Pacific Northwest, Region VII,
was with Bert Caoili, President of the Filipino Community of Seattle when the story was related to them by certain individuals. Before sending this
correction, I waited to be able to talk to Maria Corazon (Maricor)herself.
Just a few minutes ago, I finally was able to talk to her. She confirmed the details of the incident as forwarded to you by me except the fact that
it was not Aurora Pijuan who was the wife of the victim.
The true name of the alleged victim of the police brutality case is DENNIS F. OLSEN, NOT THE HUSBAND OF AURORA PIJUAN, as originally reported. He is
a practising lawyer and a former Consul in the U. S. Embassy in Manila. His wife who I talked to is MARIA CORAZON MAXI OLSEN, a Filipina. Her
maiden name is MARIA CORAZON MAGBAG. The couple resides at 4927 - 128th Street, N. E. , in Marysville, Washington 98271. They have filed the necessary complaints with the police agencies in Seattle. The case, therefore, is under investigation. However, there has been no major publicity on the terrible incident..
I was with Reporesentative Velma Veloria, the first Filipina and the first Filipino Amrican to be elected to the State Legislature of Washington.
She confirmed to me that an investigation is being conducted and that the 'situation is under control.' However, no action has been taken
against the alleged perpetrators so far.
The Olsen case will be one of the subjects of discussion during the NaFFAA convention in Las Vegas on Thursday, September 28 thru October 1. I am certain that the press will be interested to know more about it because NaFFAA officials will bring the matter to the attention of the press
during the press conference on Friday.
NaFFAA's Executive Committee will discuss the Olsen case during one of its caucuses and will decide on what to recommend to the Delegates during the NaFFAA Convention.
With the confirmation of the story, recipients of this message may now proceed with whatever action they would like to take to support the fight for
justice for the Olsens.
Thank you for your interest in the case.
