Job Description:
Serve as a mentor to Peer Educators of the Young Men's Project.
Assist Peer Educators in presentations on pregnancy prevention at local
high schools, community centers, and other place where youth come
together
Develop relationship with Peer Educators and guide/counsel them in
adolescent issues
Attend outreach projects and other community advocacy events with Peer
Educators
Young Men's Project description:
Program goal is to reduce teen pregnancy rates and numbers in Asian
Pacific Islander (API) community through community involvement,
mentorship, leadership and peer outreach
Peer Educators are API males, ages 14-17.
Peer Educators and mentors will encourage API youth to seek health
services and educate API youth at teen pregnancy and risks/consequences
Mentor Qualifications:
API male, ages 20-30
Valid CA driver's license and insured vehicle
Experience in relating and working with youth
One year commitment to mentoring one male teen
Mentor Screening:
Submit Mentorship application
Fingerprints will be submitted to the State Department of Justice for
evaluation
Driving record will be checked through DMV
Interview with project coordinator or equivalent staff member
Start Date and salary:
As soon as possible
Stipends may be available.
