Aletter written by Richard Voorman, a high ranking Los Alamos intelligence officer to Senator Murkowski, states, 'There was no evidence in
this AI that Lee had passed any classified information to the Chinese.... The
single distinguishing feature of the AI that identified Lee was the complete lack
of evidence that he committed espionage. I, of course, can not comment on the
details of the AI because it is classified. I can, however, note that ethnicity
was a crucial component in identifying Lee as a suspect. Caucasians with the
same background as Lee were ignored.'
The chair of the ethnic studies department at UC
Berkeley called the case the most important racial
profiling issue facing the Asian community.
