Al-Qaeda releases new video

Vowing new "large-scale" attacks, al-Qaeda has released a new video commemorating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The video features Mullah Mohammed Hassan Rahmani, adviser to Taliban leader Mullah Omar. Rahmani assures viewers that Osama bin Ladin is still alive.

Recent al-Qaeda operations in Pakistan such as those at the Kandahar Prison and Khost airport are praised in the video.

Al-Qaeda videos may have some impact on the U.S. presidential elections as some believe happened in 2004 when the organization released a message shortly before the polls. Some analysts believe the video helped George W. Bush win his reelection.

Pakistan hammers militants in Khyber

Pakistan has conducted new attacks against militants in the tribal Khyber region near the Afghan border.

There have been complaints about the Pakistani government's peace deals with suspected al-Qaeda and Taliban operatives in the country. The U.S. and other countries claim that Pakistan is being used as a haven for militants to regroup for attacks inside Afghanistan.
