Conscience

As shadows grow darker
And the greys get greyer
Ushering in the night`s splendour
Welcoming a starlit adventure .
In solitude and embraced by evening`s grace
A calming atmosphere in this quiet state
Makes mind wander to ponder life`s many
tastes
And humbly facing all mistakes .
Pride loses its potent edge
Weighing the ifs and buts for fairness sake
Answerable to no one except ones` self
Head bowed and teary eyed accepting this
fate .
A gnawing pain is felt within
Causing a banging of fists
Remorse rules over pride`s waste
Deeper into the night an anguish stays .
A call to the gods is heard echoing
Forgiveness the reason for this screaming
Alone and in stillness quivering
A conscience unmoved remains nagging .
