While many of China's top directors have left for
the bright lights of Hollywood, Zhang Yimou
of Red Lantern fame is in no rush
to leave Hong Kong.
The two-time Venice Film Festival winner has been
filming Hero, a martial arts saga
of Crounching Tiger caliber featuring
Zhang Ziyi and Jet Li. Some critics are
already speculating that this film will be even more
impressive than Crouching Tiger
Keanu Reeves may be set to play Billy Jack
in a remake of the 1971 hit about a half Native
American vet from the Vietnam War who used his martial
arts skills to rally folk against the establishment.
Tom Laughlin, the original star, owns the rights
to the film and is negotiating a deal with Reeves'
management and with Danny DeVito's Jersey Films.
Michelle Yeoh's new film The Touch has
not been released yet, but a sequel is already in the works.
Mythical Films has approved the $30 million production
for sometime later this year. Apparently, the producers were
impressed with the first film, which is currently in the
editing room.
She may have missed Olympic gold, but Michelle Yeoh
was nominated for the James E. Sullivan Memorial Award as
top amateur athlete of the year. Kwan also recently signed a
three year deal as a spokesperson for the Walt Disney Co..
Apolo Anton Ohno received a hero's welcome upon returing to his home in Seattle.
The Olympic gold medalist was greeted by a large shrieking female contingent with
whom Ohno commands rock star-like appeal.
Lucy Liu appears set to appear in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino
project Kill Bill. The action thriller also features Uma Thurman ,
Daryl Hannah and Warren Beatty in a story about a woman who is shot by her husband and recovers
from a coma to extract revenge.
