Most impressive of amongst the newest batch is the U.S. release of <b><i>Iron Monkey</b> </i> directed by <b>Yuen Woo-ping</b> of <B><i>The Matrix</b></i> and <b><i>Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon</b></i> fame. </font> <p><font face="Tahoma"> <b>Quintin Tarantino</b> had tried unsuccessfully before to bring this Hong Kong classic to U.S. screens. But that was before the big Hollywood trend in wire fu. <b>Miramax</b> took his advice this time and will be offering more flying action films in the future. <P> </font> <p><font face="Tahoma"> Other important releases are the hit martial arts comedy <b><i>Shaolin Soccer</b></i> and the sci-fi-enhanced <b><i>The One</b></i> starring <B>Jet Li</b>. <P>Li teamed up with directors <b>James Wong</b> and <b>Glen Morgan</b> and choreographer <b>Corey Yuen</b>, a first-class team to be sure, but the flick hasn't impressed the critics. <IMG SRC="ironmonkey.gif" WIDTH="242" HEIGHT="301" ALT="Iron Monkey" align=left HSPACE=3 VSPACE=3> <p><font face="Tahoma"> <IMG SRC="lea.jpg" WIDTH="252" HEIGHT="383" ALT="Lea Salonga © David Tan" align=right HSPACE=3 VSPACE=3> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <br> <b> David Henry Hwang's</b> retrofitted version of <b><i>Flower Drum Song</b></i> opened at LA's Mark Taper Forum on Oct. 14 and will be playing until Dec. 2. The production stars gifted <b>Lea Salonga</b> in a story about the Asian American experience. </font> <p> <p><font face="Tahoma"> <B>Chow Yun-Fat</b> is negotiating with <B>Pandora Films</b> for a part in <B>Augusta Trobaugh's</b> <B><i>Sophie and the Rising Sun</b></i>. The story centers around the relationship of a Georgia belle with a Japanese American gardener before and after Pearl Harbor. <P> Chow's last director <b>Ang Lee</b> made entertainment news again by casting unknown Australian actor <b>Eric Bana</b> to play Dr. Bruce Banner in the film version of <b>Marvel Comics</b> <b><i>The Incredible Hulk</b></i>. Bana will also have options for two sequels to follow. <P> <B>Jackie Chan</b> was scheduled to shoot scenes for his film <b><i> Nosebleed</b></i> at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. He was playing a WTC window-washer in the movie. The filming was canceled due to a late script.
