Nope, no truth to it at all. This is a confusion between the fact that I had a bad back injury 18-19 months ago (it's related to an old injuriy I got wile in the Moo), and had to take some time off of Kung Fu to rehab. I'm better now though, I just need to get my Kung Fu back.
I had to stop teaching Kung Fu during that time as well. I kept my Tai Chi classes though. And I did use quite a bit of my Kung Fu as part of my rehab, but I couldn't really practice fighting for most of that time.
The thing I find really funny about that rumur is, most OYD instructor's can't fight anyway. You don't need weapon to take them out, just good footwork and some basic striking and takedown skills. All those stories about crippling challengers to thier schools is silly nonsens designed to boost the students confidence in them.
You want to really find out if your self defence is truly 'Un paralleled' as they claim?? Go fight in a full contact match in just about any venue. In fact I recomend any 5th section and up do this. Don't tell your instructors, just go and do it. Un paralled means your should be holding your own easily with the top fighters. When you can't get past the peliminaries, you will see what guy's like Nick mean when they say OYD's can't fight, and why everyone says those schools are such huge rip offs. If your afraid to do this, it's because deep down, you know it's true, in which case the best thing to do is fade out quietly so you don't loos face. Then go train else where.
