'Do you think there are, or have you experienced different levels of skill in different parts of the country?
For example everyone says the best Chinese m.a.s are in California or New York City due to the lineage and family histories. But
yet renowned masters exist in places like Cleveland.'
I would say that, for a number of reasons, California is probalby the best bet. I could ennumerate particular instances, individuals and organizations that would be very lengthy. I would say that being on the Pacific Rim and having a long history of Asian Immigration, thriving cities, suburbs and rural communities, along with such diverse factors as Motion Picture Industry, Armed Forces, Education Systems that are open to Knowledge from Asia, have all contributed to many people with martial arts from asia not needing to go much farther in order to find people to teach, and a conducive atomsphere for teaching. Also contributing to this is Californians renowned interest in physical fitness (for health, enjoyment of life, etc) and mental/spiritual development (enlightenment, mental development, evolution,(both societal and personal). For instance, asian martial arts/sports have been taught in many public school for several decades now. While these generalizations would indicate a mecca for martial arts, many other areas in the US have great instruction available as well. In addition to the areas you've mentioned, I have heard of some good teachers being available in the Boston Area as well.
