I'm sorry - but I respectfully disagree. I was taught to lock my elbows out when punching. I was taught to lock my knees out when doing front snap kick. I was taught to overextend myself into positions where my knees were clearly extended beyond my toes and torqued. I was taught that when doing sudo kata that I should lock my elbows. I was taught to do byung cham and torque my back. I was taught that all of these things were time-tested over the past 1500 years to be one of the fastest ways to bring my body into harmony with my mind in spirit. If I was taught these things, and taught to believe my higher belts knew what they were talking about, was I wrong to follow them? Should I have questioned them? You can't have absolute obedience and questioning at the same time. You can't ask students to both a) know what's good for them, but b) not question their higher belts. Make sense, please.
