Further, that same sight has this other description:

'One day when Grandmaster was at the school someone came in who claimed to be an 8th degree black belt from a different style. He would have been treated differently but this person was acting like he had a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Grandmaster said to him, instead of wasting time talking, if you can kick me in the face then I know you are good. While taking off his watch, Grandmaster told him to go ahead and kick. Once he kicked, Grandmaster never looking away from his watch, blocked the kick as it came close to his face and threw him across the reception room. As an observer, I could hardly tell Grandmaster ever looked away from his watch or even moved his hands.'

Okay, so Kim's fight history is covered by the all asia championship, which there is not a single witness to or description of, and this story, which is remarkably similar to the story of how Forrest Troutner ended up studying under Kim(Troutner was not an 8th degree, he was in Tracy's schools, if I recall correctly, and not highly ranked).

That whole story is cheesy- first, no fighter worth his meddle will do exactly the attack you tell him to do. It's easy to throw someone if you know what they are about to do. It's just a trick, nbot a show of skill.

Second, it's so similar to the way Troutner got involved that it begs the question: Is this Troutner's story simply repackaged as a new story?

Essentially, the only actual descriptions I've seen of Kim's skills at fighting involve no skill- doing attacks on a person not defending in a class, and throwing a guy who essentially told him 'I'm about to kick high, so do an appropriate throw and you should be able to throw me'

What his fight history lacks is substantiation and real opponents who fight back. It should be no surprise that that became a common problem among the higher belts, as well.
