I was in it for the same reason. The flexibility I became aware of in my body was an incredible accoomplishment. I never hurt any joints in my body from the practice of CMQ movements. Why? because I knew when to stop a particular movement when my body's awareness kicked in to let me know I was doing something beyond my limits at the time. (It's called awareness.) It doesn't mean that I will never be able to accomplish the movements just there are limits one has to respect in order to progress.

I'm sure if the time came for you to defend yourself in a real situation you would be able to because from what I can see from your post you are in it for exploration not for exploitation.
I commend you on your efforts. Always practice with full intent you can never go wrong if you listen to your body's awareness. Peace.
