I go with the theory of guided evolution. I have a hard time believing that star dust has evolved into creatures as complex as us. We, being quite a bit more intelligent than 'random chance' cannot even create the simplest of molecules and give them life. Explain to me how random bumping of sludge is going to culminate in the abundance of life we have on this planet. Yes, one can argue that it's like a snow ball effect. We see this in our own inventions (e.g, Moores law with respect to computing power - that it must double every 2 years). However, I think that it is, again, a very human need to explain what it is that we can't explain. If there's a God that is controlling evolution (or guiding it), then we're not the most powerful things in the universe, and we can't have that!
Look science can't explain everything. Ask the typical scientist if he beliees in Ch'i (at least here in the western world), and they're going to say, 'no instruments have ever registered it, thus it isn't real.' But you and I know that it is. Why is it that we must have formulas for everything.
And speaking of formulas. Here's a great one e = mc^2. Explain to me how the random nature of chance is going to create such an elegant formula. If mathematics doesn't scream out for God, I don't know what does.
