Now, there was a Hawaiian chant about the priest from Kahiki, I believe the name was Pa'ao, and established a fiercer religion focused on Kanaloa. The older religion was more peaceful and based on worship of Lono. The new religion brought the practice of human sacrifice first in the Kona or some other place on the Big Island where there are plenty of stone platforms for these sacrifices.

I do not know if there was a military invasion but this Kahiki priest from the south (Kona) did manage to impose a new society with the older Lono worship still surviving and also older beliefs in Pele and so on.
