International Hotel Senior Housing
St Mary's Chinese School & Catholic Center
-GROUND BREAKING-
  Wednesday June 6, 2001
  9:00am – 12:00pm
Dear Friends,
Yes it's finally going to happen. We're breaking
ground for the new International Hotel Senior Housing
project. This of course is a momentous and historic
occasion for all of San Francisco and particularly the
  Asian American community.
Although the 'official' ground breaking is of great
significance given the long and hard struggle to keep
that land, that sacred hole in the ground, has become
a wound in the heart of the Filipino community. That
land, vigilantly protected from commercial developers
and their inter$t. We do encourage you to attend the
  Ground Breaking.
There is also a PEOPLE'S VICTORY CELEBRATION being
planned to be held later in the early evening that
SAME DAY @ 7:00pm at Old St Mary's corner of Grant and
  California in Chinatown.
An initial planning meeting for the PEOPLE'S
CELEBRATION is being put together by the Kearny Street
Workshop and the Manilatown Heritage Foundation.
PLEASE ATTEND THE PEOPLE'S CELEBRATION PLANNING
  MEETING:
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 7:00pm @ Mendelsohn House, 737
Folsom Street (at 4th across from the Moscone
  Convention Ctr.)
It has been over 30 years since the first eviction
notices were placed on I Hotel tenants doors and this
August 4 will be the 24th anniversity of the IH
eviction. It is befitting and honorable to have a
People's Ground Breaking Celebration. To celebrate the
rise of the new I Hotel Senior Housing and St Mary's
new school. But for all of us to remember the long
hard fight to save the I Hotel and what that hole in
the ground has meant to our communities over all these
years. Yes the Tenants and Community did Win!
Please join with us to celebrate.
Long Live the I Hotel!
  Power to the People!
