Yes, and Hyerdhal showed that the second wave of Polynesians came from the Kwakiutl area of British Columbia, with ocean currents and winds taking refugees of war directly to Hawaii, where they encountered the first Polynesians. It is probable that refugees from the Kwakiutl also fled east over the mountains and down the eastern flowing rivers as far as Manitoulin Island in Ontario.
