Im coming to believe this is true too because in the old tongan tradition way of saying is that the word Tonga means South and the word Tokelau means North.
Im Tongan myself but Im interesting in knowing more, but the sad case is that we polynesian argue over which Island was settled first in Polynesia was it Samoa or Tonga. Its very sad to see that some fights and racism occurs among some Tongans and Samoans.Because of history and what ever may have cause, but I believe, we Polynesians even though we have our own language in a isolated island, I see us all as one people from the beginning of time before our ancestors spread out to the polynesian Island.
Does'nt matter if were Tongans, samoans, Hawaiian, Cook Islanders, Maori and so on,I'll still see us as one people reuniting for the first time after so many centuries, with a different Polynesian dialects.
