In six elbows, there is no distinction between offense and defense. Many of the attacks deflect incoming attacks a la hsing yi, and no defense is not offensive.

Reply) I agree there should be no distinction between offence and defense. It is my personal preference to study the Yin and Yang of a movement first then combine them. Studying the defense of a movement will teach you how an opponent can overcome it thus teaching you not to get into that situation. Nothing like the feeling of your defense being used against you.

However, I know that other systems work on different principles, and it never hurts to understand more applications.

Reply) I agree

By the way, I saw you mention the stop hit. Aren't those fun? I like using them against the bicep on incoming hooks.

Reply) I actually was not thinking of that, but yes leopard boxing uses it. Also great for knife defenses.
