Polynesian history that was written by anthropologists, historians, and professors with objective learning intentions of facts and you'll find out who was under the under Old Tongan Empire. Dude, just type it in on google, lol. Funny how some Samoans make history sound good according to how they want to believe it. Even Tongans and it's history admit stuff we bit off Samoan Culture but at the same time stating the factual histories of it. Ask any Western Samoan from Upolu and/or Apia about the 'PA Tonga' an ancient structure where in Samoan history, where Tongans shed Samoan blood and invaded Samoa. Ask any Lauan of Fiji why their islands are named after Tubou, Lakeba, etc.(Tongan Names) because Tongans conquered most parts of Fiji and changed the names to honor Tongan names back in the day.(if u don't believe me, google Ratu Mara, Fiji's president that died a couple years ago) Ask a Wallisian(Uvea people)that right off their eastern shores where they were raped and beat, it's called ' Tonga Toto' (Blood of Tonga) where Tonga raped and invaded it's lands. Including Niue, parts of New Caledonia. Sure, we as Tongans don't have to be proud of that. The 'Umu Tangata'(human oven) where Tongans were savage cannibals. Nothing to be proud of or to be ashamed of either, it's your take. But let the facts be facts. As much as all that _deleted_ our old Tongan ancestors did back in the day, Samoa eventually rose up after a brief period in time (200 years of slavery) under Tongan rule, were they able to finally kick the Tongans out. Much props to Samoa on that. For the highest noblest name of Chiefs/Kingship in Samoa is Malietoa, deriving from the the tongan phrase of ' Malie To'a' (Wow, Brave Warrior). A phrase that the Tongan Chief at the time whom was assigned to govern Upolu , said, ' Malie tau, Malie To'a' (Good Fight, Brave Warrior) directed at the Samoan warriors as the Tongans were being slaughtered and scatted off the Samoan islands. The name stuck because them Samoans took that as a compliment, which actually was. Centuries later, Tongans came back to visit Samoa on different circumstances and a different pursuit and that was in the form of the first Christian Methodist missionaries to visit the Western Samoan islands. That's why the first Christian Church of Samoa back in day and up to recently is called 'Lotu Tonga' (Methodist Church) because the Tongans introduced the new Lotu/Christianity to Samoa together with L.M.S. London Missionary Society. It's ironic, but a very interesting piece of history. How Tongans went from fighting Samoa to bringing in the Good Word/Gospel to Samoa. Just think about it, Samoans and Tongans are one. We as Polys were all here first, so quit arguing about who's true Polynesian. The Tongan language seems to be much older then Samoan but younger then Fijian. Who knows and who gives a phucc. My point, we are all Polynesians and the most intact cultures of Polynesia is Samoa and Tonga. WE put the SouthPacific on the map because we ain't white washed like the Maori, Tahitian, or Hawaiian.-no offense. Be proud that both Tonga and Samoa has a strong history of courage, skills, and warriors and kings. This is no wonder, why we Tongans and Samoans fight constantly because it's the warrior blood in our veins!! Be happy we are the only Polynesian islands run by our own people. For SAMOA(WesternSamoa) & Tonga are actually the only remaining monarchs/kingdoms in all of Polynesia and all of the South Pacific. And not ever under colonial rule. Yes, we had influences but we never have been ruled. We both islands had our fair shares in ruling each other, lmfao!! Go figure!!
