Such a trip by King Kalakaua is recorded in the history books. I know for a fact as I was growing up in Aunu'u the stories told to us by my father of the ties of the Fuiava and the Sagale families of Aunu'u to the Hawai'ian islands The stories being told as well by the patriach of the Fuiava Clan, the late Fuiava Manoa Situe. There is also proof of such a visit by King Kalakaua as he had left 2 cannons behind with the Fuiava Family, one of which was taken to the American Samoa Museum and ther other still kept with the family. There is no doubt of ancient ties of Samoa and Hawai'i - Tui Manu'a 's influence may have reached Hawai'i as legends purports.
