Hugo Chavez welcomes Russian warships

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez presided over an official welcome to a Russian naval taskforce that arrived in the country this weekend.

The warships are the first of their kind to take part in military exercises in the Western Hemisphere since the end of the Cold War.

Hugo Chavez affirmed in Venezuelan elections

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez passed an important election test Sunday with many of his candidates winning. However, the opposition also gained ground in some areas.

"The people are telling me: 'Chavez continue down the same road,'" said Chavez in reference to his "21st century socialism."
