'Isn't dodoegi (spelling?)used to improve hip flexibility? Who would use that in a fight with all the other more practical tools we have?'

So, the block is not martial? It is in other parts of the moo repertoire. The same basic block is used in a warm up that goes block-pee attack-chung. Same problem. If it is not martial, then why do the block and train bad fundamentals?

'My understanding is to use the different forms we learn to build the body up. Not to figure out ways to beat the crap out of people and risk tearing our bodies to shreds.'

The traditional consensus seems to be to encapsulate fighting methods that are in harmony with the body, or, at the very least, effective. If you are not working on fighting methods, then just call them chi kung sets, and stop acting like it's martial arts.

'I don't understand all of you constantly talking about the poor self-defense in our forms.'

I think I've been fairly specific in the above posts on the mechanics behind your troubles. Whether you care to believe it or not, I have a black belt in the moo, and I have more knowledge than that due to my training after the moo. Do you really believe that I could describe all the things I did in the above posts after one lesson, like the others here have said? Did you remember so much after your first lesson? Were you doing dedogi, boggwa, par gae, etc, in your first lesson?

'Who goes around fighting all the time that one would need more than a block /attack/ and/or takedown defense?'

You need multiple blocks and attacks for various angles of attack and defense, plus you need to know how to set up defenses and attacks against live opponents. There is no other way to gain this skill without doing it, i.e. at least some form of sparring up to fighting.

I applaud you on your understanding of the need for takedown defenses. But, for someone to call themselves self defense teachers, and to teach flawed principles, is wrong. Teachers of martial arts must know what works, and if they have not sparred/fought, then they do not know, and should not teach anything but health/meditation.

After all, Kim fought in the All Asia, didn't he? While I find that highly unlikely, considering there is no all asia competition, it points out the duplicity of the cover story behind the moo. He fought in that competition [supposedly] year after year, yet you do not need to go through the same experiences as him? I guess that's true, if you never want to learn whether what you do works or not.
